Even though the summer is coming to an end, we are still in the midst of this seasonal heat and humidity, which can take a toll on both you and your pup. At Perfect Pooch, we want to make sure that you know the best ways for you and your dog to stay safe when the weather is a little too steamy. Here are some tips that will make the heat a little more bearable.

Indoor Walks:
Take your four-legged friend for a walk while running some errands! Going to the pet store is a fun way to cool off and have your dog get a little exercise, while playing with their favorite toys! But pet stores are not the only options. Most hardware stores are typically happy to welcome your fur-friend as well! Make sure that you’re prepared with supplies needed to clean up if any potential accidents occur.

Indoor Games:
We all know dogs LOVE treats. The game “Find It” is a great way to avoid the scorching summer heat. Make your pup lie down and begin to hide the treats around the room. Then, when you are done hiding the treats, say “Find It” and then let your pup loose on the hunt! This game is an option to mix it up from conventional games, such as tug-of-war and fetch, and allows your pup to stay cool while enjoying their favorite treats.

Puppy Popsicles:
What better way to cool off on a hot summer day than having an ice cold popsicle or even some vanilla ice cream! We guarantee that your pup will love these refreshing treats as much as you do. You can also stuff a few hollow toys with peanut butter or plain yogurt and put them in the freezer to make the treats nice and refreshing!

Water Fun:
If your pooch is not afraid of water, then this is a great way to cool them off in the intense summer heat! You can set up a sprinkler in the backyard, splash them with a garden hose, or even take them to a public lake or pond that allows pups to join in on the fun! If your dog is new to swimming, you can even find a life jacket made specifically for them. Just make sure that they do not try to drink from the body of water while swimming. Organisms in the water can make your pup sick, so bring plenty of fresh drinking water to refuel them in between laps.

At Perfect Pooch, we have all the summer tips and tricks you need to keep your dog safe and entertained. When there are times that you cannot find the time to play indoors, take advantage of our daycare services for a full day of play for your dog!
