As dog owners, we all have experienced the “puppy dog eyes” that our little friends give us whenever we eat our human food. With their glistening eyes and sorrowful whimpers, it can be hard to ignore their begging. Fortunately, there are plenty of human foods that are okay for your dog to eat as well. Despite our diets being vastly different, a dog’s stomach does not differ far from ours. In fact, dogs break down and digest food just like we do! Check out some of these great options for sharing.

There are a number of fruits like bananas, blueberries, and apples, to name a few, that are extremely healthy for dogs. Apples are filled with Vitamins A and C, and contain fiber. The seeds are also relatively harmless to dogs, but should not be ingested regularly, as it can upset their stomachs. It’s better to serve them apple slices with the seeds removed.

Yogurt is another great human food that your dog can enjoy as well. Packed with raw protein and containing no seeds or complex textures, it’s easy for them to digest. However, there can be an excess of fat depending on the brand of yogurt, so it’s best to get fat-free yogurt. During the summer time, frozen yogurt is the perfect snack for cooling down your dog after a nice, long walk.

Lastly, there are a handful of vegetables that are also full of healthy nutrients for your dog. Green beans are typically the “go-to” vegetable, as dogs genuinely enjoy the taste. They are particularly useful if your dog is trying to lose weight because they can act as a substitute for standard dog food. Packed with Vitamin K, Vitamin C and manganese, green beans are beneficial for their overall health.

Healthy foods are optimal for dogs under the correct circumstances, but it is important to understand that table-feeding is still not recommended. Feeding your dog from your plate is not a good habit to develop, as we often eat a lot of foods containing sauces, condiments and preservatives that are not healthy for our furry friends. Not to mention that it rewards the dog for begging and they come to expect food while you are eating, which can cause negative behaviors.
